CUWFA Conversations: Better Prompts, Better Outcomes: A Practical Start with AI

You've been told to start using AI. Maybe you're curious, maybe you're skeptical, maybe you're just tired of hearing about it, but you're unsure where to begin, or you've tried it and gotten back something flat and forgettable.

This session starts with the questions worth asking before you open any tool: what are you actually trying to accomplish, what will you hand off to AI, what will it help you think through, and what stays yours no matter what? From there, you'll get a practical framework — tested in real HR practice — for turning those decisions into prompts that actually work, with a real example from work-life and caregiving communications.

You'll leave knowing how to start using AI thoughtfully, getting results worth keeping, and exactly where you belong in the process.

Presenter: Kim Mathie, Marketing & Communications Specialist, Human Resources, The University of Arizona

Kim Mathie has spent nearly a decade at the University of Arizona and more than a decade across higher education, nonprofit, cultural, and religious organizations, focusing on connecting people with the resources that truly matter to them, whether that's helping students find career direction or helping employees understand their benefits. She co-developed a practical AI collaboration framework to address a real gap: clear, usable guidance for working with AI simply didn't exist. Her higher education background taught her that mission-driven work means understanding complex stakeholder needs while staying focused on who you're really trying to serve. She measures success by whether the work actually helped people, not by how polished it looked.
